One arrested in domestic violence ax attack

The police raided a house on Jan van Amstelstraat in Schjndel on Wednesday afternoon to arrest a man who had attacked a woman with an ax earlier on Wednesday. The man was arrested around 3:15 p.m. According to the police, the man barricaded himself in the house after the attack on the woman and threatened to harm himself. He was alone in the house. The police closed down the area for the safety of bystanders and called in a SWAT team for support. The fire department arrived with ladders. An officer used one of the ladders to talk to the suspect through a window of the house, according to Omroep Brabant. He tried to convince the man to come out of the house, but this did not succeed. The police eventually raided the house and arrested the man. The victim had fled the house earlier in the afternoon. The police have contact with her. The extent of her injuries are unknown. The police stated that this seems to be an incident of domestic violence, but did not give any further details. According to Omroep Brabant, the man destroyed the inside of the home with the ax. Bystanders told the broadcaster that the couple had been living on the street for only a week.
