New pedestrian tunnel opens at Zwolle station

The new tunnel Zwolle station opened on Friday morning. The tunnel's unusual design includes 3.2 million mosaic tiles, glass elevators and voids allowing natural light in. The tunnel is more than 100 meters long and 17 meters wide, NOS reports. In the past four years the stations' 40 thousand daily passengers had to walk through a temporary traverse to reach the various platforms. But now the travelers can once again pass under the tracks. The tunnel was open to passengers from the first trains on Friday morning. Zwolle station hopes to be able to handle the increasing number of travelers passing through the station with this new tunnel. The number of people traveling to and from Zwolle is expected to show a significant increase in the coming years. Later this year, shops will be added to the tunnel. https://twitter.com/GerritJHKuiper/status/614313070165409792
