Wijnaldum picks up the Golden Boot

PSV captain Georginio Wijnaldum was awarded the winner of the Golden Boot. "This award means a lot to me." Wijnaldum said at the winners event of the Footballer of the Year in the restaurant Kasteel Heemstede, the Telegraaf reports. "Winning this award is especially nice if you look where I come from." Wijnaldum said. "A year ago I just came back from a back injury, leaving me unable to play football for months. After that so much has happened and nothing but nice things. Coach Louis van Gaal gave me the opportunity to go to the World Cup, where I played all the games. And then such a great season at PSV with the championship, a record number of points and now this individual prize as best player of the year. It has been an incredible year." AZ midfielder Nemanja Gudelj won the Silver Shoe and FC Groningen player Eric Bottegehin came in third place.
