Bussum mayor resigns as expenses investigation intensifies

The commissioner of the King Johan Remkes has ordered an investigation into Bussum Mayor Henk Heijman's expense claims. Heijman has decided to resign his duties during the investigation and informed the municipal council of Bussum of his decision on Monday. According to the Province of Noord Holland, Heijman requested the investigation following reports about his housing claims. The investigation will focus on, among other things, the claims submitted by Heijman since his appointment as Mayor of Bussum and his living situation. "I think it's important that the facts are clear. Extended investigation is intended to provide that clarity." Remkes said about the investigation. The intention is that the investigation should be completed in about a month. The results will be given to the commissioner of the King, who discuss it with the mayor and faction leaders.
