Appeal readied in fatal jewelry store robbery
Zakaria G. is appealing the three years prison sentence he received for his involvement in the fatal jewelry store robbery in Deurne last year. According to his lawyer Valeri Lantain, Zakaria G. has always maintained that he is innocent and therefore does not agree with the punishment, Omroep Brabant reports. The Public Prosecutor demanded a 3.5 year prison sentence against G., but the judge ruled that G. was not the mastermind behind the Goldies robbery that left two robbers dead and only sentenced G. to 3 years in prison. The judge did not believe G.'s claim that he did not know anything about the robbery. G. had extensive telephone contact with the two deceased robbers prior to the robbery. Acquaintances also stated that G. knew about and was involved in the robbery. The most important evidence for the court was the fact that G. admitted during the trial that he had arranged a second getaway car.
