Dutch crime leader Holleeder linked to 2012 assassination: newspaper

Notorious criminal boss Willem Holleeder can be linked to another assassination attempt in the criminal underworld. Holleeder has been in custody since December on suspicion of involvement in the assassinations of Kees Houtman and Thomas van der Bijl. According to an investigation done by newspaper De Telegraaf, Holleeeder was possibly involved in the assassination attempt on criminal Martin Hillegers on November 23, 2012, in Badhoevedorp. Hillegers' brother Remco was killed in the attack. Elsevier reports that Holleeder was seen near the crime scene by two witnesses shortly after the assassination. The witnesses saw him in a place that had a good view of the dike where the murder took place. Holleeder has always denied having any involvement in Hillegers' murder. He claims that he was having dinner with his family when the assassination took place, but according to De Telegraaf, family members and several ex-girlfriends say that this is not the case. The information has been given to the Public Prosecutor, which will investigate.
