Alleged house explosion threat leads to arrest
The police arrested a man in a house on Koningin Emmahof in Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel around 01:45 on Friday morning. It is believed that the man threatened to blow up his house, but the communication office could not confirm this.
The police arrived at the house around 21:00 on Thursday night after neighbors called them and reported hearing the man screaming, NU reports. The police deployed negotiators and a SWAT team. The address is registered as having one male occupant, it is not yet clear whether the arrested man is this occupant.
The SWAT team raided the house after the man was arrested and found nothing abnormal. According to the police, it is not clear whether the man turned on the gas, but they operated as if he did.
26 surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution. The evacuated people were given shelter in a general practice in the area. They have since been allowed to return home.
