Oma Toni, stabbed in Amsterdam, dead at 96
Oma Toni, the 96 year old woman that was stabbed by a disturbed man in Amsterdam on March 19th, has passed away in hospital, RTL Nieuws reports.
Oma Toni was taken out of the intensive care unit two weeks ago, but her condition deteriorated in the past few days. The police are investigating whether there is a link between her death and the stabbing. Toni's granddaughter, Nienke Schipper, believes that there is. "The autopsy will show that", she told the newspaper. "There were so many infections and complications that Oma Toni's body slowly gave in. But she fought for all she was worth."
Oma Toni was attacked on March 19th as she was walking with her walker in De Pijp, Amsterdam. A 24 year old man from Arnhem stabbed and hit her several times. Oma Toni managed to escape to her house and phone the police. The man turned himself in to the police on the Dam an hour after the stabbing. He told the officers that he stabbed someone to take revenge on his father.
Oma Toni's family will have her funeral in private, but has set up an online condolence site for everyone who wants to say goodbye. More than 300 people have left a message and more than 2,600 people have lit a digital candle on the site so far.
