Fining public transit subscribers for mistakes is unfair: cabinet
According to the VVD and PvdA, train passengers with a public transport subscription should not receive a hefty fine if they forget to check in, AD reports. NS conductors should not treat these loyal customers as miscreants, but should manually check them in on the train.
It sometimes happens that a passenger using a public transport subscription gets reprimanded by the conductor because he or she forgot to check in before the start of the journey. "That is ridiculous and completely inexplicable", according to Betty de Boer (VVD) "You've already paid!" De Boer feels that this is how you lose customers.
De Boer and PvdA parliamentarian Duco Hoogland will ask parliamentary questions to Minister Wilma Mansveld of Infrastructure on the matter today. They want to know whether fining loyal customers is not "contrary ot the principle of the traveler on 1, 2 and 3".
