Groningen supermarket staff and customer trounce suspected robber

A hapless robber trying to hold up a supermarket on Linnauesplein in Groningen Tuesday night found himself overpowered by a customer and several store employees instead. At around 20:40 Tuesday night, the 25-year-old man forced a cashier to hand over some money. He was overpowered by the customer and a few employees as he was trying to get away with his stolen loot. The employees managed to keep the man under control until the police arrived. The Groningen resident was arrested and held for further investigation. This is the second time in less than a week that a supermarket robbery was stopped by customers. On Saturday, two Amsterdam boys stopped a robbery in progress at the Spar supermarket on Nieuwe Kerkstraat by pelting the two robbers with shopping baskets.
