Burned man held after body found in torched shed

A man has been arrested in Rotterdam last night after firefighters found a burned body in a garden shed that was alight at a house in Noorderbocht.

The blaze had been reported just after midnight Monday night. Heavy clouds of smoke were bellowing from the shed, and train traffic had to be interrupted briefly. When the firefighters extinguished the fire, the found the burned body. Police say the identity of the person is unknown. It is also not clear if it concerned a man or a woman. Neither is it clear if the person died in the fire or was dead before it started. The suspect that was arrested, a 43-year-old Polish national, was found walking along the A20 highway, not far off Noorderbocht, shortly after the fire had been extinguished and the body had been found. Burn wounds over his body aroused suspicion, but police are not certain that he sustained them in the fire.
