Massive Limburg harbour fire destroys multiple luxury yachts

A large fire broke out at the Comfortparc marina in Wessem, Limburg at 4:30 a.m. Thursday destroying a few dozen luxury yachts and houseboats. The burnt down ships are beyond repair and considered lost, reports 1limburg on their webpage. Over 60 firefighters and emergency responders from several supporting agencies got the fire under control around 7:20 a.m. so the fire did not expand further. The fire raged in two different scaffoldings of the marina according to a fire brigade spokesman. Several explosions, possibly caused by gas cylinders onboard the boats, were reported at the scene. Police and fire investigators are working Thursday morning to discover the cause of the blaze. They are not commenting on questions about arson. It is the third marina fire in Limburg in a short period of time, reports newspaper De Stentor. The first estimates show that no harmful substances such as asbestos was released in the fire and the advice for the neighbouring area to keep all the doors and windows shut was revoked approximately at 7:40 a.m.
