Dutch tune in to TV news after Paris shootings

Dutch news broadcasts attracted more views on Wednesday than on a typical weekday. All broadcasts were dominated by stories of shootings at the offices of satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris. The NOS evening news drew over 2.7 million viewers on Wednesday which is a few hundred thousand more than normal according to broadcast ratings group SKO. RTL News maintained its average at 1.4 million viewers. Roughly 950,000 viewers tuned into Nieuwsuur, where Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb gave a fiery interview saying those who do not believe in society can "pack their bag" and "fuck off." Altogether news broadcasts between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. were watched more than on an average Wednesday. The talk show Jinek made a record of over one million viewers and EenVandaag was seen by 1.2 million people. NPO 1 dropped their afternoon broadcast schedule to make room for an additional NOS news broadcast.
