Albert Heijn spokesman calls it quits after a decade
Albert Heijn has stopped making the TV commercials with the supermarket manager in the lead. Harry Piekema, the actor who played the manager, was the face of Albert Heijn for 10 years. He quit because his work for Albert Heijn left him insufficient time for other things.
Last year Piekema was the narrator in the film De Nieuwe Wildernis (The New Wilderness). In an Albert Heijn press release he states that he wants to focus more on such projects in the future. Next spring he will direct the English theater play Mrs. Picasso. In the summer he will perform in a play at festivals.
The supermarket manager was seen in 153 Albert Heijn commercials. It earned him 33 nominations for the Gouden Loeki, the prize for the best TV advertising. In 2008 Piekema won the Gouden Loeki oeuvre-award.
The last commercial starring Piekema will be broadcast on Tuesday.
