MH17 aid workers honoured for service

About 200 aid workers who were involved in the aftermath of the flight MH17 crash, received a commemorative medal at the town hall of Hoofddorp yesterday to thank them for their service.

Immediately after the crash, volunteers from the aviation ministry were constantly present at the airport to accommodate and assist relatives of the victims. "We especially listened a lot and asked if you can do something for them", said volunteer Gerrit Medema. It was an impressive time for pastoral care volunteer Jans de Zeeuw. "It was very moving." She is proud of the award. "It is nice that the mayor awards us a medal, but it's even better to help people."
