Amsterdam to step up drug awareness over holidays

The campaign in Amsterdam warning visitors that white heroin is being sold as cocaine, is being intensified in the period around Christmas and New Year. There are more tourists in the city during the holidays. At least 17 people have become ill after snorting white heroin thinking that it was cocaine, three British tourists died. About 130 tests to determine whether drugs contain white heroin have been sold in Amsterdam in five days. The tests are for sale at smart shops and from street teams in the city. This is to prevent more people falling victim to the street dealer who is selling heroin as cocaine in Amsterdam. Users who encounter heroin in their cocaine are requested to contact a special mobile team of the Public Health Service.
