Newspaper publisher lays off another hundred
Another 105 employees will be laid off from NDC Mediagroep by July 2015, the company's director said in a statement. It amounts to a sixth of the Leeuwarden company's workforce, and is the second time large job cuts have been announced at the regional newspaper publisher.
"Despite the solemnity of the situation, these are necessary measures to be taken in order to assure the continuity of the company, maintaining the independent journalism in the North, and the preservation of our independence," said company director Dina Boonstra in her address to the NDC employees today.
Fourty-eight editorial positions will be cut at Dagblad van het Noord, the Leeuwarder Courant, Frieschdagblad, and the magazine division. No further information was given about the departments and positions affected by the job reduction.
