Dead body found in water suggests crime: police
The man who was found dead in the water in Gouda on Saturday has been identified as the 43 year old Ewoud Siegers from Gouderak, a town near Gouda. The police suspects a crime.
The victim and his car had been missing since Tuesday, December 2nd. The car, a red Opel Corsa with registration number ST-HH-80, is still missing.
On Friday the police received a tip that there was a person in the water beside the Julianasluis in Gouda on the Kanaaldijk-N207. Tire tracks were found on the quay that indicate that a car may have been driven into the water. The fire department searched the water by boat and divers, but found nothing. Siegers' body was discovered by a passerby on Saturday morning in the water along the Noordhoef behind Rietzoom in Gouda.
The police immediately launched a murder investigation. The first inspection by the local coroner identified the victim as the missing Siegers and determined that he did not die from natural causes. The police could not say exactly how Siegers died. "That is information that only the perpetrator knows", said Wim Hoonhout, a spokesperson for the police in Haaglanden. It is not yet clear whether the crime took place where the body was found or elsewhere.
The police are still looking for Siegers' red Opel Corsa, which can be recognized by a bald, pale spot on the right side of the hood. A faulty exhaust causes the car to make a lot of noise. The police are also looking for tips regarding the whereabouts of the victim between December 2nd and Saturday.
