Worst year for Dutch football since 1950

This is the worst year for Oranje, currently under coach Guus Hiddink, since 1950, according to statistics. And in a year when the team's old coach, Louis van Gaal, surprisingly came home from the World Championships with a bronze medal. The Netherlands has had 5 defeats in this calender year. The only time that Oranje has performed worse was 64 years ago when they suffered 6 defeats in one calender year. On Sunday Oranje will play against Latvia in a European Championship qualifying match. Oranje ant Latvia faced off against each other once before. That was in the European Championship of 2004 in Portugal. Then the Netherlands won 3-0. Guus Hiddink announced last week that he will resign if Oranje loses the match against Latvia. The last coach to resign was Loius van Gaal.
