The management of Ajax called the behavior of the supporters "reprehensible". Te six young men, between the ages of 22 and 28 years, confessed to throwing the fireworks. The incident occurred during the beginning of the match, after the first goal. All six suspects said the fireworks were thrown to "enhance the atmosphere". It had nothing to do with the fact that the match was played in the Rotterdam Kuip. 38 people were arrested after the cup final because of open violence against property.
