Rotterdam jihad suspect picked up before Syria trip

On October 29th the police arrested a 20 year old man from Rotterdam who is suspected of having made preparations to participate in the armed struggle in Syria. The man came to the police's attention after they received reports that he shows signs of radicalization. The presumption is that the man wanted to travel to Syria soon. Police searched his home and confiscated a number of data carriers and cell phones for further investigation. The man appeared before the magistrate on Tuesday. He was conditionally released from pre-trial detention. The man had to hand in his identity documents and is not allowed to leave the Netherlands.
