Bank staffers to lose mortgage discounts

According to Financieele Dagblad, employees of banks and insurance companies will lose the discount on their mortgage in the future. Bank employees sometimes get a 30 percent discount on the interest rate of their mortgage. More than 60 thousand people profits from this, but more and more companies are removing this benefit. Nationale-Nederlanden has already removed this discount from the benefits package, because "that fits this time". ASR is removing the discount from January 1st. The four major banks have no concrete plans to cut the discount, but according to the unions, they can not remain behind. The Ministry of Finance will examine whether the discount schemes can be addressed by law. PvdA Parliament Member Ed Groot expects that the discount scheme will be less generous in the law next year.
