Netherlands names new counterterrorism offical
Piet de Klerk was appointed special envoy to combat terrorism.
As special envoy De Klerk will put the Dutch international efforts in the fight against terrorism in force. Priorities are an international approach to jihadists and countering terrorist financing.
De Klerk is traveling directly to Washington, where he will participate in an international conference on sanctions against ISIS and the Assad regime. There he will speak to, among others, representatives of the American government and organizations active in the fight against terrorism.
De Klerk was previously the main negotiator responsible for the preparation of the Nuclear Security Summit in The Hague in March. Before that he was an ambassador in Jordan, Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and human rights ambassador.
