New wind farm costs to hit €5 billion

According to a report commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the construction of offshore wind farms will cost 4.8 to 5 billion euro, depending on location. Minister Henk Kamp submitted the report to the Second Chamber. According to the report, which was supervised by the Central Planning Bureau (CPB), the wind farm provides nothing yet, only societal costs. This is because the wind energy has no effect on CO2 emissions. Camp speaks of a regrettable misunderstanding at the CPB. He believes that the European system of emissions trading will change and that wind energy will soon deliver benefits. According to Kamp the wind farms will eventually save a total of 4.2 billion over previous plans.
