Ex-child soldier who killed neighbor gets prison, psych care

A former child soldier from Sierra Leone has been sentenced to 5 years in prison and psychiatric care for killing his upstairs neighbor in Rotterdam in December 2011. The man killed his victim by hitting him over the head with a hard object several times. The judges do not believe the perpetrator's statement saying that the victim fell down the stairs after an argument and so lost his life. The man from Sierra Leone tried to stuff the victim's body in a suitcase, so that he could transport and then bury the body. The man tried to cut the corpse into pieces with grinder when he realized that it would not fit into the suitcase. The court found that the ex child soldier has reduced accountability due to his traumatic youth as a child soldier. Psychiatrists and psychologists determined that the man suffers from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as personality disorder. These disorders increase the chance of recurrence. Experts found that a long and forced treatment will be necessary.
