First new health insurer in 25 years gets go-ahead

From October 1st the Netherlands will have a new health insurer - Anno12. Rob Adolfsen, Michiel Alkemade, Petwin Verkerk and Jos Zegers have been planning this initiative for some time. All four of them are from the former insurer Agis, which merged into Achmea. Now that they've obtaine authorization from De Nederlandsche Bank, Anno12 can really take off. The Dutch market in health insurance is dominated by four major players - Achmea, CZ, Menzis and Univé. It is not yet known what Ann12's premium will be for the basic insurance in 2015, but the founders want members to be involved in principle in the direction of the company and loyalty rewards. Their aim is to recruit at least 20 thousand members in the coming months. Anno12 emphasizes freedom of choice for the insured, who will be able to choose which health care provider they use.
