Groningen on the hook for Passion Play costs

The municipality of Groningen had to invest almost 33 thousand euros for the Biblical television spectacle The Passion, as there were too few sponsors.  This is evident from an evaluation of the musical event, conducted by Marketing Groningen, AD.nl reports. Nevertheless The Passion was a success for Groningen, according to alderman Joost van Keulen (VVD). "We had for very little money a great big party, which drew attention in the Netherlands and even the world." Almost 4 million people watched the live broadcast of the street musical about the last hours of Jesus Christ's life on April 17th. Around 20 thousand visitors attended the live showing.
