MP pelted with eggs and fireworks in The Hague

MP for the PvdA, Ahmed Marchouch, says that he was pelted with eggs and fireworks in The Hague's Schilderswijk on Monday. He tells Omroep West that the culprits also shouted slurs at him. During a talk with residents of the Schilderwijk about an incident that happened there last week, Marcouch said that a couple of "louts" passed him on scooters a few times, and shouted "Marcouch homo!" before throwing eggs and a firework. Marcouch says that he has reported the incident to the police, but is not sure whether he will file charges yet. Marcouch tells Omroep West that he is disappointed that these bad characters are defining the Schilderswijk, and urges the police to gain more specific knowledge about the workings of this neighborhood to be able to control it more efficiently. The well-meaning residents of the neighborhood could then become "partners" with the police and the municipality. The MP believes a big problem in the area is separation between groups.
