Rabobank bringing contactless payment to Android
Rabobank will soon release Rabo Wallet, an Android application that allows you to pay amounts up to 25 euro without a PIN by holding your smartphone against a payment terminal.
This is made possible by Near Field Technology (NFC) in today's smartphones. Initially the app will only work on the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy Note 3. According to the bank these are the only devices currently considered safe enough for this type of payment. More devices will be able to use the app in the future.
The user must also be 18 years or older and posses a payment package or student package. In addition to fast payments, the app will also be able to check your current balance. More functionality will follow.
The Rabo Wallet is still in the testing phase and must first be tested by 100 thousand test subjects. It is not yet clear when the app will be available to everyone.
