Exam hacker gets prison
The 19-year-old hacker Jair M. from Rotterdam has been sentenced to a prison term of 13 months, 12 of which are conditional. M. haked around 2000 computers, collecting 42 million private files. The Public Prosecution Authority (OM) demanded added psychiatric treatment which, to M.'s relief, he did not receive, the NOS reports.
Jair M. broke into thousands of computers, also hacking into girls' webcams. After he placed a film of a naked girl on her own Facebook page in October last year, M. was arrested. It was then revealed that the hacker also had child pornography on his computer.
The OM demanded that Jair M. get involuntary psychiatric treatment (TBS). It was earlier reported that M. has Asperger's, and psychiatrists believe that this influences his own responsibility for the things he has done. According to the court, no TBS is necessary.
Jair M. is also guilty of indirect involvement in the exam fraud case at Rotterdam's Ibn Ghaldoun school. He published the stolen French exams online. This was the biggest case of exam fraud ever in The Netherlands, and was discovered in may of last year.
After M. was arrested, he said that he became spellbound by the possibilities of hacking. "I kept taking another step", he said. He was not doing it for money, he emphasized. He also says that he regrets what he did.
