Man dies after violent home invasion

A 58-year-old man from RIjnsburg died early Monday morning after his house was invaded by a group of men. Police say the man and his wife were startled awake around 2.30am, when at least three men barged into their home at Gouderegen plantsoen. The group manhandled the couple, rummaged through the house and then left. It is not clear yet how big their loot was. The couple called police as soon as the invaders had left, but when officers arrived on the scene the male victim was no longer communicable. Emergency teams tried to revive him, but he passed away on the scene. Police say that an investigation was immediately launched. A forensic team combed the house for evidence and detectives canvassed the neighborhood. Police did not say whether they found any traces of the invaders. An autopsy will be carried out on the victim to establish the exact cause of his death.
