Cop shoots man in the leg

Police say the Internal Investigations Department will be looking into a shooting that left a man injured in his leg last Sunday.

The man was shot around midday by a police officer at Anton de Kom Square in Amsterdam Zuidoost. Police say officers had been directed to a house at Bijlmerdreef, where there were reports of a “conflict”. What the “conflict” entailed, police did not say.

They say that when officers arrived at the scene, they learned that one of the men who had started the argument had left.

The 28-year-old Amsterdammer was found at Anton de Kom Square. What happened there is not said, but police say the officer found himself with no other alternative but to draw his weapon and shoot the man in the leg. “Afterward he was brought under control and taken to the hospital by ambulance,” police say.

They say it is customary for the Internal Investigations Department to probe further when a police officer has fired his gun.
