NS back to normal after brutal PM rush hour

Train traffic in North-Holland is back to normal again after Tuesday evening saw a standstill in NS services in some parts of the region. Due to a disruption in the secured telephone line between the dispatcher and the engineer in Alkmaar, which is how safety instructions are communicated, there was no way to transmit instructions. Due to safety measures, trains were not able to run. The entire evening, almost no travel was possible on the lines Leiden-Haarlem-Alkmaar-Den Helder, Zandvoort-Amsterdam Sloterdijk, Zaandam-Enkhuizen, Zaandam-Alkmaar and Amsterdam Sloterdijk-Den Helder. The problem was solved, but it did take a while for traffic to return to regular services.
