Free wifi stays on trains through 2025
Internet on Dutch trains will remain free for the next years. In principle, free wifi on intercity's will remain free until 2025 according to plans from Dutch Railways (NS).
There has been some doubt about the free availability of wifi-networks in trains recently, and whether people would need to start paying for the service. The contract between the NS and telecom service T-Mobile expired, which has given the NS the ability to change their policies around internet availability.
The NS will look for more internet providers. The company will also be researching the possibility of installing a 4G network, an upgrade in internet speed. T-Mobile's network runs on 3G.
Wifi is now only available on intercity's, which travel between larger cities. For shorter trips on sprinters and stoptrains, which stop at small cities, there will not be wifi for the time being. New trains will get internet connectivity.
