Sinkhole opens in Zierikzee

A large hole was created in the road surface in the Rodedorp in Zierikzee on Monday after a water pipe broke underground. The hole is around one meter long, half a meter wide and one meter deep. A car drove into the hole. The driver was unharmed. Mechanics from Delta were able to close the water pipe towards the afternoon, but not before 25 centimeters of water collected in the street. The water has been pumped away. The broken pipe resulted in several homes in Zierikzee being without water for some time on Monday morning. The leak also caused problems in the water pressure for the rest of Schouwen-Duiveland. This has slowly returned to normal after the leak was closed.
