More young donors, NL
More young people have registered themselves as organ donors in The Netherlands. In the last five years, the percentage has doubled according to the Dutch Transplantation Association (NTS).
In 2009, five percent of all 18-year olds made the conscious decision to be organ donors. In 2014, this is almost ten percent.
For those who have not yet registered early, minister for Health, Edith Schippers (VVD), will send everyone who was born in 1995 a letter asking if they would like to be donors.
Registering early is allowed from age 12 onwards. It is only at age 18 that young people are actively approached for this. Social media sites such as Twitter, YouTube and Vine will be used in the next years to promote the choice to become an organ donor.
