Coentunnel closed in Amsterdam

The Coentunnel in Amsterdam was closed for at least three hours on Monday night due to technical issues. It was only opened again after four o'clock once the problem was solved, a spokesperson for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment (Rijkswaterstaat) announces. The Ministry did not give information about what exactly caused the tunnel to have to be closed down in both directions. There was some chaos as drivers who got stuck in a traffic jam in front of the tunnel decided to turn their cars around en masse. There were no traffic police officers to regulate this, and it resulted in several collisions in places.
