Tax office overpayments hit €335m

Since the start of the new tax benefits system in 2006 the tax department overpaid €336 million, evident from the semi-annual tax reports and data RTL Nieuws collected from the Tax department. Over the past half year alone €63 euros 'leaked', meaning the tax department has no hope of recovering the money. Member of Parliament, Pieter Omtzigt, questioned State Secretary of Finance, Wiebes, about what he calls a substantial amount for such a short time. The amount that 'leaked' is made up of €90 million in healthcare benefits, €136 million rent subsidies, €13 family benefits, and €97 million in childcare subsidies.
