Three new parties in Utrecht council

Utrecht's municipal council has welcomed three new parties. Stadsbelang Utrecht has won two seats, the Party for Animals (Partij voor de Dieren) as well as Student & Starter both got one seat. There are now ten represented parties in the municipal council, which is one more than last year, the municipality reports. Seven parties, including the Seniors party OPA, and Ouderenpartij Utrecht, didn't receive enough vtes to win a seat. D66 won Utrecht, as they did in much of the country, and won four extra seats, with 13. The second biggest party in Utrecht is now GroenLinks, with nine seats. The PvdA took a nosedive from 9 seats to 5. In Utrecht, 915 people handed in either blank or non-valid ballots.
