Candidate council member causes outrage after gay-remark
Mohamed Derkaoui, candidate council member for the Liberal People's Party Roermond (LVR) apologized for saying homosexuality is a disease. A Facebook posting of the politician from 2012 recently surfaced, in which Derkaoui made the statement, causing some commotion.
That commotion turned into a fierce discussion when he repeated his view in an interview with the Limburg broadcaster, L1, this past Tuesday. In a press release Derkaoui offered his apologies to the citizens of Roermond and especially the homosexuals for hurting them. The politician denounces his interview, since he can not take back words already spoken. Derkaoui realizes he likely "embarrassed the current municipal council group and fellow LVR candidates and that he is sorry." https://twitter.com/FunsElbersen/status/445910457610956800
