Care workers to go on strike

Workers in 100 nursery- and care-homes are planning a strike on tuesday, according to trade union Abvakabo FNV.The strike, which could last between one minute and one hour, is in reaction to a disagreement about a Collective Labour Agreement for employees in nursing and care homes, which was decided amongst small trade unions in December.

The Abvakabo FNV walked out of the discussion, in disagreement with the refusal of employers to make plans to create more clarity in rosters, services and contracts. This does nothing to relieve the intensity of working hours, according to the union. Last month, care workers also participated in a temporary strike in fifty institutions. The campaign will broaden on Tuesday. In The Hague, FNV-president Ton Heerts and Socialist Party leader Emile Roemer will also be present at the actions.
