Concert collects €15,000 for Jazz Archive

A benefit concert featuring top jazz artists from the Netherlands has collected €15,000 euros to keep the Netherlands Jazz Archive (NJA) open.

Singer Francien van Tuinen, drummer Han Bennink, John Engels, Joost Patocka and saxophonist Benjamin Herman took to the stage to help the archive open. NJA, which houses a collection that spans 30 years of Dutch jazz history, faced closure per January 2013 first when it was left without Government subsidy.

“We have been able to close our first year without subsidy successful and we’re continuing with full determination,” said chairman Bert Vuijsje Sunday night as curtains came down on the benefit concert at Bim Huis in Amsterdam.
