Fire rips through Amsterdam West buildings

At least twelve barracks were destroyed by a fire that was discovered around 5.30am in Westelijke Havengebied, the harbor area in west Amsterdam. Judging by the tires and cars that were ablaze, many of the burnt-down structures housed repair shops. By 9.30am the flames were contained and firefighters were monitoring while the fire burned out further. It wasn’t clear either how many buildings exactly had been destroyed on the lot at De Heining. “It is a cluster of structures there, so it is very hard to tell the exact number,” a spokesman reported. Speculations put the number between a dozen and 15. No dangerous vapors had been released and no human victims were reported. “You never know what you’ll find, but we expect it to remain that way.”
