Groningen agrees on super community
Seven Boards of Directors and Aldermen (B and W) of Northern Groningen, agreed Tuesday to jointly explore the idea of one large community.
At the start the future town, Hoogeland-Eemsdelta, will count about 100,000 inhabitants. The population is expected to decline to 83,000 in 2040.
The agreement between the seven colleges of B and W of Bedum , de Marne Winsum, Delfzijl , Appingedam, Eemsmond, and Loppersum, are a major administrative achievement, according to mayor Rika Pot from Appingedam. The talks only started after the Summer with initial reluctance.
Mayor Pots firmly contradicted reports of a division within the seven colleges of B and W, as was suggested by RTV Noord earlier Tuesday. The B and W's unanimously agreed on a joint proposal that the City Councils will address simultaneously on December 3rd.
