An F-16 damaged the control tower of the military training area Vliehors on Vlieland with its mounted gun.The accident occurred Monday afternoon when the fighter fired on a ground target, but hit the tower instead. There was only property damage. The Air Force is investigating what took place. The Vliehors is the only training area in the Netherlands where pilots of the Air Force and NATO partners may practice, using ammunition and explosive charges. Few people live in the area and it has a relatively free airspace.
