Crimes And Accidents This Weekend
The Police and rescue services had an average weekend in terms of aggression and accidents. Nevertheless, there are unfortunately enough stories which are worthwhile mentioning. Here an overview of the most notable happenings.
Jordaanfestival Amsterdam
At the Jordaanfestival, a yearly festival in the Amsterdam district ‘de Jordaan’, a man was heavily beaten up on Saturday evening. He took part in a street fight among a group of 15 to 20 boys and men who started fighting after some misunderstandings. This was reported by the police.
The victim, a 38-year-old male, was kicked in the head when he was already laying on the floor. A 24-year-old man from Amsterdam was arrested for this.
The police arrested also a 15-year-old member of the street fighters for abusing the catering personnel.
Boy locked up in safe
The fire brigade in Montfoort, Utrecht, had to pull out to free a 8-year-old boy from a safe on Saturday evening. The boy was attending a party in a commercial building and while playing, he locked himself up in the safe.
The code of the 1-meter-large safe was unknown to the people at the party. So, the firemen first quickly drilled a hole to be sure there was enough oxygen and then used some special equipment to open the safe door.
The whole operation took maximum 40 minutes, during which the boy was talking calmly with the firemen. However, after he was set free, the tension became too much and the tears ran down his cheeks. The boy had no injuries.
Domestic violence
A marital quarrel on Saturday evening resulted in some violent confrontations. A 28-year-old man from Wildervank drove, after a fight with his wife, to the house of his parents-in-law in Oude Pekela. There arrived the fight went on, he threat to kill his wife and hit his mother-in-law in the face.
When the father-in-law and a brother of the wife wanted to move the angry man from the house, there was a lot of beating and yelling. The man from Wildervank then stepped into his car and quickly drove backwards into his in-laws. The mother and her son were wounded.
The alarmed police was able to catch the man in Wildervank. Apparently he had drink too much and he was invited for an overnights' stay at the police station.
Policeman beaten
A policeman was beaten up by a 19-year-old man on Staurday night at the inner city of Groningen. The police reported that de young man first started yelling to the policemen. After using lots of abusive language he suddenly pointed his aggression to one of the policemen and kicked him a view times hard in his legs.
After the incident the man could quickly be traced and arrested. The injured policeman reported the beating and was happy that he had no broken bones. However, the injuries to his leg were severe enough to keep him at least one week away from his work.
Girl severely injured in street fight
An 18-year-old girl from Schouwen-Duiveland in Zeeland was part of a street fight at a bus station in Zierikzee and was severely injured at her neck.
The police was alarmed at around 3.30 am on Sunday morning, that things were going wrong at the bus station. Upon arrival they interviewed a group of about twenty people who all told incoherent stories. How the girl got injured remains still a question. She was first brought to a hospital in Goes, but was then, because of the nature of the injury, transferred to a hospital in Rotterdam.
Train conductor beaten
At the railway station in Assen, Drenthe, the police arrested a 41-year-old man on Sunday morning early. He was a suspect of beating a train conductor during a ride, reported the police.
The train conductor had asked the man for his train ticket. The man from Amsterdam refused to cooperate and when he was confronted with a fine he hit the train conductor in the face.
After the free ride to Assen, the men was awaited by the police who took him in.
ATM blast Groningen
Unknown people have tried to rob an ATM in one of the outer skirts of Groningen on Sunday morning. It is not yet know to the police if the robbers took money from the machine. When the police arrived they found a burning car and the suspects were gone. While the fire brigade distinguished the fire, the police kept people at a distance.
Woman stabbed in Oss
In de van Galenstraat in Oss, Brabant, a woman was stabbed in her house on Sunday evening. She is not in life danger according to the police. It is not clear yet what led to the stabbing and who did it. Up and around the house there was at Sunday evening a lot of police.
Stabbing Cafe Den Bosch
Also in Brabant, in Den Bosch, there was another stabbing. This time it was not home violence but a stabbing in a cafe. In the cafe, Jij & Ik, was a private party going on. The one who stabbed entered the party and went immediately to the victim to stab him.
When the police arrived the stabber was gone and they found the heavily bleeding victim on the floor. The man was brought quickly to the hospital. The police doesn’t know yet what was the reason for the stabbing.
Traffic accidents
In Tilburg, on Sunday evening, two cars collided at the crossing of Nieuwe Kadijk en the Doornboslaan.
Two children, who were sitting at the back seat of one of the cars, and one of the parents got wounded.
A man and a woman from The Hague got wounded on Sunday afternoon at an accident on the N224 near Ede. They were hit by a swerving car.
On Monday morning a truck ended up, up side down, in a ditch besides the A28. In the vicinity of gas station Panjerd, between Hoogeveen and De Wijk, the driver lost control over the truck. The driver and his co-driver were sent to the hospital for a check up.
