The Netherlands may safely start drilling for shale gas
RTL Nieuws announced that it possesses a secret report that states it is possible to safely drill for shale gas.
The study, commissioned by Minister Henk Kamp of Economic Affairs, shows drilling does not cause any hazards. If the cabinet eventually agrees, drilling can start on the pilot sites Boxtel, Haaren and Noordoostpolder.

Flickr Shale gas is natural gas, extracted using a controversial method, from hard shale deep underground. There are particular concerns about water pollution, but also vibration, subsidence, and gas leaks. Friends of the earth Netherlands says the government would be acting recklessly if they allowed for shale gas drilling, based on an incomplete report. The cabinet's intentions are based on a study that did not sufficiently investigate the risks. Friends of the earth Netherlands urges parliament, who plans to decide the matter in September, to extend the existing ban on shale gas drilling.
