100th Anniversary of Peace Palace
On August 15, the Royal Dutch Mint introduced two latest coins to commemorate the Peace Palace’s centennial anniversary this month.
The Peace Palace, which was launched on August 28, 1913 by Queen Wilhelmina, is globally known as the heart of The Hague, a symbol of Peace and Justice.
The celebration will begin on August 28 and will end on September 21, the UN Day of Peace. The celebration will include various events to set as reminders in achieving a peaceful world.
The Peace Palace Fiver 2013 Silver Proof
Photo from KNM/ Royal Dutch Mint The gold and silver coins, designed by Thom Puckey, are the succeeding memorial coins released after the appointment of King Willem-Alexander in April. They are available at the Royal Dutch Mint in Utrecht. King Willem-Alexander’s portrait appears on the left side of the coin with a wording “WILLEM-ALEXANDER KONING DER NEDERLANDEN” and dated 2013. Meanwhile, the reverse side features the attractive interior and architecture of the Peace Palace, with two observers appreciating the stunning building on both sides. The texts “ARBEID RECHT VREDE,” which means Arbitration, Justice and Peace, are placed underneath the main design. Over the Palace, there is “100 JAAR VREDESPALEIS.” The coin’s value appears on the right. The coins will be formally issued on August 16 and they are available for order after the release.
