OV-chip as Bank Card
Travelers will be able to use their OV-chip card to pay in the different shops on all NS-stations later this year. Instead of the 10 to 15 seconds needed for payments with a bank card, settling bills with the OV-chip will only take 1 to 2 seconds.
Telegraaf.nl reported on Tuesday that NS Stations Retail, one of the biggest retailers in the country, is working together with several banks including the Rabobank to make this payment method available countrywide.
The method was tested in different places, including Amersfoort, for two years.
In the near future, travelers can use the OV-chip not only for coffee and sandwiches but also for car or bicycle rental or for parking fees.
