Tickets go on sale tomorrow for the third edition of the Food Film Festival in Amsterdam. The festival is slated for March 22nd through the 24th. The festival provides an opportunity for movie lovers and culinary specialists to enjoy these two passions simultaneously. It is also for people who are interested in the origins of the food they eat.

An international audience is expected to attend the screenings, which will include classics, documentaries, shorts and feature-length films, including Chungking Express, Bottled Life and Make Hummus, Not War. The restaurant on hand will prepare a menu using local, seasonal and fresh ingredients.

Extensive program offerings include live events, debates and lectures related to food issues. Genetic modification is this year’s main debate topic. A farmer’s market will be set up at Timorplein on March 23 and 24, while mobile kitchens and food trucks offer a wide range of delicacies and treats.

The festival will take place at Studio K in Amsterdam Oost, along with some programming in the Kriterion cinema in Amsterdam Centrum. Most of the workshops are planned in Dutch, with only a few scheduled for English speakers. However, the majority of films are either in English, or with English subtitles.

The Food Film Festival is organized by the Dutch Youth Food Movement, a network of farmers, producers, students, consumers and policy makers who share a common interest in "slow food" principles. "The movement strives for the opposite of fast food: tasty, high-quality products that are sustainably produced and free from dubious preservatives," the festival states on their website.
